Serena WIlliams beats Sharapova, cruises into semis

Defending champion Serena Williams defeated Maria Sharapova 6-4, 6-1 in the quaterfinals of the 2016 Australian Open as the most anticipated game of the competition has proven to be one of the most one-sided ones.

Serena beat world number 5 on Tuesday to book her spot in the final four of the competition.
 Sharapova started off brilliantly as she broke Williams in the opening game and then held her own serve to take a 2-0 lead.
Serena showed what she was made off as she fought back to bring the score level at 4-4.
Williams put a lot of pressure on Sharapova for the break, eventually converting her 4th break point in the game to take the set 6-4.
Serena showed master class as to why she is currently the world number one in the second set as she put on an exemplary exhibition of shot-making and aggressive tennis, backing Sharapova down and making her chances count.
The American took a massive a 5-0 lead before the Russian was able to win a game, with the world no. 1 taking the set and the match 6-4, 6-1.
