Sergio Romero: I could become first choice for Mourinho at Man Utd
Manchester United forgotten goalkeeper Sergio Romero
has welcomed the appointment of Jose Mourinho as manager saying that
the Portuguese could help him become the first-choice shot-stopper at
Old Trafford.
The Argentina international, who is in the squad for this summer’s special Copa America tournament, joined the Red Devils on a free transfer a year ago was initially installed as the club’s first-choice due to the uncertainty surrounding David De Gea’s future.

However, after the Spaniard’s proposed
move to Real Madrid fell through on transfer deadline day, Romero was
relegated to the bench, with his last Premier League appearance coming
in the 2-1 defeat away at Swansea City back in August.
Mourinho’s arrival at Old Trafford could hand Romero the chance to prove himself during pre-season and he’s hopeful that proves to be the case, as reported by Mail Sport.
“Mourinho knows I’m a hard worker and he can count on me,” Romero said.
“I think the door to becoming United’s first goalkeeper is open again for me.”

The 29-year-old can impress the
Portuguese coach this summer as he’s expected to be Argentina’s number
one at the Copa America that is being held in the United States to mark
100 years on from its first edition.
Furthermore, according to the Mail, his chances of displacing De Gea could be boosted by the news that United are set to face another summer of fighting to keep the stopper from making the switch to the Santiago Bernabeu.
