David de Gea has welcomed José Mourinho’s appointment as Manchester United and spoke about him in glowing terms in an interview with Spanish outlet Marca.

There has certainly been excitement from the United players and fans to the appointment of the 53-year-old Portuguese manager and the current United number one was no different.
De Gea also moved to dismiss suggestions that he would be leaving Old Trafford in the near future, with speculation surrounding a move back to Madrid to join Real having gone around for several years.

De Gea: “Mourinho is a winner”

On Mourinho, the 25-year-old said:

Talk about Jose Mourinho and you’re talking about a winner. Winning is United’s, Jose’s and my philosophy. We can make a great team and I welcome him.

On the constant speculation surrounding his future, he said:

People talk a lot and they know little. I know how all this works, but what I think is disrespectful is when people start making out that it’s something I have said.
I’ve got three more years on my contract with United and the desire to win more titles here.

De Gea, who is expected to start between the sticks for Vicente del Bosque’s Spain side at Euro 2016, also hoped that United’s FA Cup victory would kickstart another trophy boom:

When it comes to United, if you don’t win everything, it’s not good enough.
This FA Cup is important for the club, it’s important for the fans, and it’s an important step towards winning major titles again.
