Pupil Stabbed To Death

PARENTS of the pupils involved in a deadly fight at Khulumeluzulu High School in Mkhwakhweni Village, Pongola, had a meeting with the school’s governing body yesterday.
SGB chairman Hubert Ntshangase told Our Correspondent that the main purpose of the meeting was to establish ways of making peace between the parties involved.
The meeting comes after Monday’s tragedy, when grade 10 pupil Mbuyiseni Ntshangase (16) was stabbed to death.
His classmate Wandile Mabika (16) was seriously injured when he was hacked in a gang fight in the school premises.
Speaking to the People’s Paper before the meeting started late yesterday, Hubert said the situation was still tense and that they needed to talk some sense into the feuding boys’ heads and also comfort the dead boy’s family.
“At the moment, we have to calm the situation and let cops investigate.
“We condemn what happened but we do not want the classes to be disrupted.”
Even though the cause of the deadly fight has not yet been established, it is believed that the two groups of boys involved had been nursing a grudgs against each other since the day schools closed for the winter holidays.
“They are giving us silly answers when we ask them what happened.
“Apparently the fight started after one boy claimed that another one from the rival group gave him a nasty look,” said Ntshangase.
Police spokesman Colonel Jay Naicker said the injured boys were rushed to hospital for medical attention but Mbuyiseni died on arrival.
“The second pupil is still in a serious condition.
“A case of murder was opened and a 20-year-old suspect has been arrested and charged with murder.”
KZN Department of Education spokesman Muzi Mahlambi said: “In most cases we find out that such incidents proceed from community issues that the schools have nothing to do with.”
